Sopapillas

After raking mulch at the Orchard Street house we picked up Lauren and went to Carlos O'Kelly's. For dessert we had sopapillas. They are puffy, fried dough pieces with honey and cinnamon sugar. Yum! Lauren found a recipe and we made more.

Cacti Part 2

Ok...I somehow mangaged to get two of the little spiny things in my hand and had to spend quite a bit of time and effort removing them, but it didn't surpass the amount of time I normally allot for facebook.  We all tried the cactus.  It was a little watermelon like in taste, but not texture.  Personally, I don't think I'll have it again unless stranded in the desert.  Oh best beloved took pity on my and took me out to La Rue 123.  I enjoyed a lovely bordeaux, lobster bisque and some great Jazz.  La Rue is the former Joshua Gunnell house which reminds of  The Gunnell House at Truro.  We  ended our meal by holding hands and sharing ten things we love about each other.

At the close of the day I am grateful for the lesson in a spiny cactus, a husband who knows me well and a loving God.

Day Two

My goal for this day is to try something new.

While traversing the aisles of Shopper's Food Warehouse I found this funny thing called a cactus pear.  It will appear on the menu at chez Bradford this evening.  You have to be careful with these things as they not only have spines but tiny little prickers that can get in your skin.  This might not go over well with the chicken nugget crowd, but I'll let you know.

Ash Wednesday - Day One

The handbells chimed
The choir sang
Adorable in their choir robes
We knelt at the altar
acknowledged the things done and left undone
Ashes and a cross upon our head
bread was broken
a cup was shared
Lenten season has begun
